Gluten-Free Restaurants in Minneapolis/St. Paul

October 16, 2018 by Kari @ The Savory Celiac Leave a Comment

This list is current as of March 25, 2019. I LOVE living in Minneapolis. Besides the culture and amazing people we have here, we are fortunate to have a great selection of gluten-free restaurants, breweries, and food trucks. One of the things I also love is that we are so close to St. Paul and…

Gluten-Free at Original Pancake House

June 18, 2018 by Kari @ The Savory Celiac 4 Comments

Is there anything better than that first cup of coffee in the morning? I think not! We have a restaurant up the street from our house that we used to go to all the time. The owners knew us by name and they gave my kids hugs every time we walked in the door. They…

Tavern on France

May 5, 2018 by Kari @ The Savory Celiac 1 Comment

I have yet another celiac-friendly restaurant for you that I was seriously surprised to find out was safe – Tavern on France in Edina! I had been to this restaurant pre-diagnosis and had maybe heard that they had some gluten-free options. This visit was a total last minute decision to have an early dinner with the…

Sift Gluten-Free Bakery

December 15, 2017 by Kari @ The Savory Celiac 2 Comments

Minneapolis has scored once again with the addition of a brand new gluten-free bakery that just opened last week! Sift – A Gluten-Free Bakery is located at 46th and Bloomington right in South Minne! I have had their donuts and pastries in the past at a local Farmer’s Market, and I knew this was coming to the…

Sassy Spoon

November 2, 2017 by Kari @ The Savory Celiac 2 Comments

Sassy Spoon is the one restaurant that I feel 100% confident walking into. I don’t need to ask questions or feel like I’m bothering them with my food requests. Why? Because this place is 100% gluten-free and it’s literally blocks from my house. Lucky me! I had been to Sassy Spoon a couple times before…

Have you ever had an arepa before? I don’t think I had ever heard of one before I visited Hola Arepa!! Now I think about them every day! Hola Arepa was first a food truck and now they have a brick and mortar on 35th and Nicollet in South Minneapolis. I’ve been for dinner and…

Barrio

August 5, 2017 by Kari @ The Savory Celiac Leave a Comment

I am going to start this post by saying that I don’t expect restaurants to drop what they’re doing because I walk in with Celiac Disease. I understand that not all restaurants can offer gluten-free items or a safe kitchen. And that’s why I don’t go those restaurants. But, oh man, I was so disappointed…

Instagram post 2190349039401588280_5149748792 I added this delicious and incredibly easy cranberry chia seed jam recipe to my blog today!! It takes 10 minutes on the stovetop, but it won’t last long. It’s tart and sweet and the chia seeds are a superfood powerhouse full of fiber, protein, antioxidants, and omega-3s.

A couple of weeks ago I was #gifted two loaves of gluten-free sourdough bread from @zukkeekitchen kitchen. I toasted the bread and then slathered it with butter and this delicious jam. Oooooohweeeee was that good!! The recipe is linked in my bio! https://thesavoryceliac.com/easy-cranberry-chia-seed-jam

They included everything to make this festive Buddy The Elf Sweet Maple Chex Mix! And they even made sure to send me all gluten-free and safe ingredients! Swipe ⬅️ to see the recipe!! Perfect timing for this, too, because Lucy and I are heading to @stagestheatreco today to see Elf Jr! ❤️🍝🍫💚 #gifted #madewithchex #buddytheelf #maplesyrup #maplesyruponspaghetti #spaghettiforbreakfast #christmassnacks #chexmix #glutenfree #glutenfreeholidays #glutenfreeblog #glutenfreeblogger #glutenfreedom #glutenfreefood #glutenfreelife #glutenfreelifestyle #glutenfreeliving #glutenfreefoodshare #glutenfreeeats #glutenfreetreats #glutenfreegoodness #celiac #celiacsafe #celiacfood #celiacsofig #celiacdisease #celiacawareness #celiacliving #thesavoryceliac
Instagram post 2185405409360375849_5149748792 Gobble, gobble. I aways bring this adorable and tasty turkey cheeseball appetizer to my family’s Thanksgiving day festivities. Not only is it shaped like a turkey, but it has smoked turkey in it which really takes it to the next level.

And 2019 will be year TEN that I’ve been making it. I have adapted many changes to my turkey cheeseball over the years, including making sure it’s gluten-free! It’s still just as popular as the first time I brought it!
Just look at how cute it is! The recipe is linked in my bio if you’re looking for a last minute appetizer. It will be a hit, I guarantee it!
What are you bringing to Turkey Day?! 🦃

Instagram post 2184617890037483068_5149748792 Alright, it’s here! I give a complete run down of how I make gluten-free yeast dinner rolls. Nearly identical to the real deal! I also include ALL the information I’ve gathered regarding the gluten-free wheat starch that is in the flour I use from @mulinocaputo and why I feel it’s safe for myself to consume. Remember: I am not a medical professional and I am not telling anyone what kinds of foods to consume/avoid. That’s your decision. I’m just giving my opinion and what I’ve learned! Believe me, I’ve spent a lot of time researching!

I give very detailed step-by-step instructions to get these just right because breads (especially gluten-free breads) can be very finicky. Let me know if you have questions, I’d be glad to help!

Instagram post 2178716493899187281_5149748792 Hey, friends! It has been a while! I forced myself to take a social media break and it was so worth it. I admittedly fell into the trap of feeling “imposter syndrome” and mindless scrolling without getting anything of benefit from it. So I had to take a step back and it was the best thing for my mental health. I am much less stressed, I feel more patient with and connected to my children, and I have been able to just take some time for myself. I know some people can put a lot of effort into social media, but right now I’m not one of those people. And I’m Ok with that.

And then I spend an afternoon with these beauts and I’m reminded why I started this account in the first place...to feel connected to others with Celiac Disease. I am so grateful for these friendships I’ve created and everyone I’ve “met”; whether that be online or in person!

Thanks to @burnbrosbrew and @auntiemglutenfree for hosting these fun events where we can gather and eat and drink without worry. And thank you to @celiac_in_mn, @argensota, and @sidetrack.celiac, @glutensniffingturtle (just some of the people I’ve met through social media) for your friendship and comraderie! 😘 #burningbrothers #burningbrothersbrewery #auntiems #glutenfreebeer #glutenfreefoodtruck #glutenfreeblog #glutenfreeblogger #celiac #celiacdisease #glutenfreelife #certifiedglutenfee #whatceliacseat #singluten #sansgluten #senzaglutine #gfree #glutenfreelifestyle #nogluten #glutenfreefun #glutenfreelife #minneceliac #glutenfreetwincities #glutenfreeminnesota #thesavoryceliac

Instagram post 2153824240777139829_5149748792 🚨 HOLIDAY GF PRODUCT ALERT!! 🚨 I know these crispy onions are a hot ticket item for those Thanksgiving/Christmas green bean casseroles. Spotted at @wholefoods Edina yesterday and even on sale for $2.99. Ingredients are onions, palm oil, buckwheat flour, and salt. Instagram post 2148776511424418861_5149748792 I think it’s safe to say it feels like fall out there! And I’m loving it. I couldn’t really get into the “pumpkin” craze until October hit, so now I’m all in. 🎃

I just posted this cozy slow-cooker pumpkin chowder on my blog. Gluten-free/dairy-free/paleo/Whole30 (and even a vegan option)! It’s easy and makes a big batch so you’ll have plenty for leftovers or to share. For extra protein, I cooked up some @aidellssausage chicken and apple sausage...because could those flavors go any better with an autumn soup?! The link to the recipe is in my bio. Enjoy this beautiful fall day, friends! 🍁

Instagram post 2143937063331193101_5149748792 There is not really much to say about this Tater Tot Hot Dish other than it is very basic, but oh so yummy!! The ingredients are just ground beef, veggies, tots, and condensed cream of mushroom soup. If you’re looking for a gluten-free version of the condensed soup (because soup commonly has gluten in it - annoying!) @pacificfoods is my go-to! My mom used to make this all the time growing up. And Brian had never tried it before we met so now he loves it, too. We actually refer to it as TTHD in our house.

People have asked me for this recipe for many years and now I finally have a place to share it. It’s live on the blog and the link is up in my bio!
•
Now I am curious...let me know if tater tot hot dish is a thing where you live! Do you call it hot dish or casserole? (Cough, cough...it’s definitely HOT DISH! 😉)

Instagram post 2138618918349422214_5149748792 It’s football Sunday!! We usually put on our purple and gold to watch the Vikings play and whip up some fun dips and football food. Like this Roasted Red Pepper and Feta Dip! Shown here with this yummy dip is the @mybreadbakery original gluten-free pita that I cut in half and then into 1-inch strips. I put some olive oil in my cast iron skillet and cooked them evenly on both sides until they were a tad crunchy on the outside and still squishy on the inside. Perfect for dipping! You can find this recipe through the link in my bio! 💜💛

Instagram post 2135042680989105228_5149748792 This here is a product that I most likely will never consume. Why? I DO NOT believe this is gluten-free, even though it’s labeled as such.
•
As you may know I have a @nimasensor (I love it) which I use when eating out/traveling and for products here and there at home. I had seen some other Nima users sharing that they had found gluten in their Tajin bottles. I had just bought some to use for a party so I tested my bottle and also found gluten. I just threw it out.
•
But then I wanted to do some more research. I went out and bought 2 more bottles and tested them each at least twice. 1 bottle came back with gluten found both times. The other came back once fine and once with gluten found. I reached out to Nima and sent them one of my bottles to get confirmation. They tested it in their fancy lab and found that “the product in its raw form did react with the chemistry” - gluten found.
•
Another red flag: I noticed that the website for Tajin displayed the Certified Gluten-Free label (you know the one - the dark black GF with a circle around it - basically the gold standard for labeling). But that symbol was nowhere on the package label which was odd to me. I reached out to @glutendotorg to find out if Tajin is indeed certified through their organization. Oh, surprise, they were NOT. Tajin was basically using that logo illegally on their website. GFCO followed up with Tajin and the logo has since been removed from the website.
•
I also sent an email to Tajin to ask about their processing/manufacturing and equipment cleaning and gluten testing processes, because they do also make products that contain gluten. They responded, “all of our processes and products comply with the strictest International standards and the FDA.” Vague. They asked me to send the bottle I had trouble with but I already sent one to Nima and threw the other one away. I haven’t followed up with them again because I don’t want to buy and test another bottle. They’ve received my complaint and heard from GFCO about their labeling. The ball is in their court.

Instagram post 2132255550428668106_5149748792 Happy Celiac Disease Awareness Day to all my fellow warriors out there! I celebrated at one of my favorite places, @culvers! I go to the one in Bloomington on 494 and Nicollet and they are so careful with my food. Staff is always amazing and I trust them 110%. The order is entered as an “allergy” in the system and the person who takes my order physically tells the back kitchen prep area that I have Celiac. The buns are prepackaged @udisglutenfree so cross-contamination is not a concern. (P.S. I think they may have changed their recipe for commercial products because the buns have been out of this world the past few times!) They also have a safe fryer (at the location I go to). And, they always bring my food out on a separate tray from the rest of the order. I feel like a real person eating out like everyone else!! Enjoy the weekend, friends! 💚🍔💙 #culvers #culversglutenfree #glutenfreedining #glutenfreeistasty #butterburger #glutenfree #glutenfreeblog #glutenfreeforlife #glutenfreeblogger #celiac #celiacdisease #glutenfreelife #certifiedglutenfee #whatceliacseat #singluten #sansgluten #senzaglutine #gfree #glutenfreelifestyle #nogluten #glutenfreefun #glutenfreelife #minneceliac #glutenfreetwincities #glutenfreeminnesota #thesavoryceliac
